Hi! I am Leana, a digital artist from Germany. I love to paint and draw, to create characters, and to be part of a project. After I found out about an art career, I knew that being a concept artist and illustrator is what I want to pursue. I love that in media, such as games, films, and TV series many forms of art join to create a new whole. Therefore, I find a lot of inspiration and happiness in that.
I chose CGVerse online art school because I wanted to learn from an industry professional. Each professional concept artist or illustrator who is working as a mentor at CGVerse has impressive portfolios and the modules of the art mentorships were well structured and offered what I was looking for. I was looking for a one-on-one lesson with a concept art mentor who could give me individual art feedback and exactly point out what I needed to work on. As a result, it will make the most effective progression in understanding how to build my art career.

Character Illustration done during the mentorship
My biggest problem was that I didn’t know what skills Concept artists need to learn. So much information can be found on the internet about concept art and illustration, which can make it a little hard to decide what to learn and try next. Therefore, I was spending a lot of time on many different things without focus. I also felt that my education was lacking as the university I attend doesn’t offer classes in the fields of concept art or illustration.
I was looking for direction and structure and a professional mentor who could offer that and with whom I could work on art fundamentals.
I worked with Edward and Chris on a character illustration and experienced the complete art workflow from developing the idea and finding references, over sketching, posing, and designing a character to learning how to polish my art to the very end.
Edward covered the art fundamentals such as lighting, color, value, anatomy, and character design and for each lesson, we thought of homework to practice these, which I could do on the side. Edward helped me a lot with how to improve my art in the areas where I had difficulties.
Chris helped me to refine the character and with each iteration, the result got better and better. I learned from Chris how to finish an illustration and identify the weak parts in an illustration that need to be improved. During the sessions, he explained concepts and techniques that I didn’t know about before which helped me learn how to take my artwork to the next level.
