Tell us about yourself: Who are you, what do you love to do and where are you from?

Im QinDa! A concept artist living in Singapore. I currently work for an animation studio doing environments. During my free time I like to collect art books and catch up on movies.

What were the biggest problems you faced when you started as an artist?

Learning to adapt to different workflows and techniques. When starting out it’s very easy to stick to a workflow that you are comfortable with, however learning different work-flow and techniques are important to expand your skills.

Forsaken well

1st piece of mentorship.
A traveler uncovers a ruined sanctum. An angel statue eternally pours water into a basin which travels through channels around the temple.

Why did you decide to sign up for CGVerse online art school?

CGVerse was very appealing as it offered a 1 on 1 mentorship for Advance blender workflow. Since I wanted to improve my blender skills and be more efficient in 3D, it was the best option.

What did you do during the mentorship and what helped you on each task?

The mentorship went through the whole workflow of creating environment pieces in blender and photoshop from sketches to finish, while going through some advanced blender techniques.

Throughout the 2 months, we tried to push for a different environment each month with different themes so we could cover more topics.
The Mentors, Adam and Christopher, were very thorough in making sure I understood how to use the techniques and applied them to the work.

Taking lots of notes and going through the technique immediately after learning it helped a lot. That way I could apply what I learned instead of sticking to what was comfortable to me.

How was the mentorship for you?

It felt really good since I learned a lot. I’m very happy with the 2 pieces from the mentorship. The teachers were super encouraging for me to try and experiment outside of my comfort zone.

What would you say when you recommend us to an artist?

It’s a really good course since the teachers will teach you techniques that are hard to find online, or terminology that you might not even know about. And you can start expanding your knowledge more based on it.

Peacemaker Mech hanger

2nd Piece from mentorship.
A Mech hanger repairing a damaged Mech which lost its arm. The platforms move to facilitate the engineers and mechanics.

What are your next steps?

I will probably try to learn Unreal Engine or adding abit of animation into environments.

Personal images

(Before the mentorship)

Karakuri theater

A samurai walks into a colosseum operated by karakuri mechanisms. A karakuri dragon comes out from the ground and reenacts a play with a karakuri vagabond.
