Well, I am a 21-year-old university graduate who loves to create fantasy and mythical themed concept art and has been extremely in love with art since a young age.
Inspired heavily by games such as World of Warcraft, there has been a prevalent desire to output creative ideas which have been evoked by such games. I also love to exercise and find other ways to express my creative ideas. Additionally, I am situated in Melbourne, Australia.
CGVerse online art school was quite enticing in its expansive industry network.
Given the fact that I was fresh out my Games Design degree and the world of concept art being still somewhat of a mystery. This opportunity seemed too good to pass up and felt like a good step to reinstate some structure, as well as learn some valuable information on the discipline I am becoming more involved in.
Some of the biggest issues I would consider to be were;
Feeling lost and becoming too critical after seeing others’ exceptional works.
Going at my own pace and not having a complete understanding of the art fundamentals, while not utilizing great learning resources that can improve any artist’s arsenal.
A general hesitation to use modern techniques and my entire program skillset to create concept art outside of digital painting, as well as taking my ideas to their full rendered potential.
I learned the fundamentals of creating a concept from the ground up. The timeline began with referencing. Finding the appropriate image inspiration, breaking it down into simple elements then transferring it all into a 3D format, using sources that are easily available to build a scene.
My mentors took me through comprehensive and comprehensible classes which really helped me. The overall breakdown of what we were doing and their attempts at defining all the steps and techniques for me, both conceptually and programmatically was really the most helpful thing during this concept art mentorship.
Bridge Palace Environment Illustration
Bridge Palace was the main project of this mentorship.
The mentorship for me was definitely a successful and excessively worthwhile investment. I was unsure, to begin with as I was still getting to know what concept art really was at the core.
I initially thought I should solo improve my skills however in the end, I, of course, came to the conclusion that professional and experienced mentors in the entertainment industry would yield teachings more valuable than money.
The mentorship helped me grow as an artist and put things into a professional perspective. I am gracious to have gone through this concept art mentorship with great mentors and appreciate what CGVerse online art school had to offer!
I would say to the concept artist if they feel as though they are going through a plateau in their art, that this opportunity grants an insightful and refreshing experience.
